Rotary Duck Race proceeds will benefit these agencies: The
Heart Gallery "A
Family for Every Child" The Relief Nursery's mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by early intervention that focuses on building successful and resilient children, strengthening parents and preserving families. The Relief Nursery works with families with children, birth to 6 years old, which are at risk of abuse and neglect. The Relief Nursery addresses the needs of children and parents. Rotary Duck Race funds will help bring the full array of Relief Nursery services; crisis intervention, therapeutic classrooms and parent education, to Springfield and neighboring communities. The Child Advocacy Center of Lane County provides an array of supports to children who are victims of physical abuse a nd sexual abuse and children who witness domestic violence. Children reporting abuse are interviewed once by a caring professional to get information needed by police, attorneys, doctors, child protection staff, and judges. Staff record the interview to accurately reflect the child's statements. An experienced physician conducts medical exams in a non-intimidating environment. Duck Race funding will provide a Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise Volunteer Victim Advocates. Funding also will provide support groups for parents of sexually abused children. Looking Glass Youth & Family Services: This one is for the girls! Duck Race funds will support services to provide child abuse intervention, treatment, and prevention-focused educational services at our Evaluation and Treatment Center (ETC). This girl-specific emergency shelter and residential program serves 50-70 girls annually. Girls who come to ETC have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect and suffer mental health issues. Our services are designed to help abuse victims escape dangerous environments, provide treatment to help victims to heal, and break the generational cycle of abuse. Duck Race funding will ensure we continue offering these services to all girls who turn to Looking Glass for help. Heart
Matters “A Family for Every Child”: 20,000 children
leave foster care at age 18, most without any support or connection.
70% of these teenagers abuse their own children. We can be the example
of how to offer support and end ongoing abuse. Their greatest need is
the unconditional love of a COMMITTED FAMILY. With Duck Race funds we
will recruit, offer additional training, and help support life long committed
parents. We will offer older children a Mentor . This is a person who
will be a friend and advocate helping children transition from foster
care. We will train our mentors to assist teens applying for educational
and vocational opportunities. Also we will search for loving family/friends
from whom they have been separated. Re-establishing this kinship is a
powerful way to improve the lives of foster children. We see teen foster
children abusing themselves, attempting suicide, running away and using
drugs and alcohol. These behaviors are caused by the lack of support
and the profound loneliness these teens experience. Committed families,
mentors and reestablishing kinship can help end self-abuse. Committed Partners for Youth: Together building Resiliency, Understanding and Empowerment (TRUE) Friends is a mentoring program for children between the ages of 6-17 years old who have a parent in prison and therefore are at a significantly higher risk of having been victims of child abuse. Children build a trusting, consistent, one-on-one relationship with an adult volunteer for at least one year. Caregivers receive services that include family/caregiver support dinners, home visits, as well as education about community resources. CPY's mission is to connect youth to their community through mentors who inspire personal growth, healthy relationships, and meaningful opportunities.
